These works touch on important topics in our current #MeToo era, such as the gender binary, the representation of Black women in art, identity politics, and speaking truth to power. Carter for Best Costume Design and Hannah Beachler for Best Production Design (both for <em>Black Panther<\/em>), the display also focuses on the role of women filmmakers throughout the world. <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/851572831\"><em>Italian women filmmakers and the gendered screen<\/em> <\/a>features essays and interviews with acclaimed Italian women directors on their contribution to film.<a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/957747585\"> <em>Latin American women filmmakers: Production, politics, poetics<\/em><\/a> contains scholars providing in-depth analysis on the rise of female-led film in Latin America. <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/974315444\"><em>Warriors, witches, whores: Women in Israeli cinema<\/em><\/a> provides a feminist study of the Israeli film industry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1126\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-1-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Given McGill Library\u2019s robust collection of graphic novels, the book display features the work of women graphic novelists, cartoonists, and anime artists. <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/847542191\"><em>Pretty in ink: North American women cartoonists, 1896-2013<\/em><\/a> is a comprehensive volume of works that range from a Holocaust survivor penning action\/adventure comics to the First Nations army corporal behind the series <em>G.I. Gertie<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/925522616\"><em>Black women in sequence: Re-inking comics, graphic novels, and anime<\/em><\/a> covers everything from African goddesses to postracialism in comic books. We have also chosen to highlight the work of contemporary graphic novelists, such as Montreal native Julie Delporte\u2019s latest <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/1011604060\"><em>Moi aussi je voulais l\u2019emporter<\/em><\/a>, a feminist autobiography.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1134\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-5-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"International Women's Day\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-5-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-5-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-5-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2019\/02\/pic-5-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In light of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission\u2019s Calls to Action, the display contains important works by Indigenous authors: Kim Anderson\u2019s book <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/953023548\"><em>A recognition of being: Reconstructing Native womanhood<\/em><\/a>; Mary Jane Logan McCallum\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/900415356\"><em>Indigenous women, work, and history, 1940-1980<\/em><\/a>; and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/890069116\">Mothers of the Nations: Indigenous mothering as global resistance, reclaiming and recovery<\/a>,<\/em> edited by D. Memee Lavell-Harvard and Kim Anderson.<\/p>\n<p>Take a moment to check out the wide variety of titles on display.
