Wade<\/em> in June 2022, we have continued to see reproductive freedom taken away at the highest levels of government in the United States. There has been a ripple effect in Canada, as some members of parliament have become more outspoken about limiting access to reproductive health in this country. As we begin 2025, let us take a moment to look at the breadth of literature on reproductive rights. Much of this display features writings from and about the Canadian context, but there are topics ranging&nbsp;from Victorian Toronto to present-day Mexico and everything in between.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2024\/12\/shout-your-abortion.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3354 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2024\/12\/shout-your-abortion.jpg 800w, https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2024\/12\/shout-your-abortion-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/hsslibrary\/files\/2024\/12\/shout-your-abortion-768x960.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Some noteworthy works on the local history of reproductive health in McGill Libraries\u2019 collection include: <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/985071426\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">After Morgentaler : The politics of abortion in Canada<\/a>, which examines the landmark 1988 decision of R. v. Morgentaler that struck down Canada\u2019s abortion law; <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/1052766395\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shout your abortion<\/a>, a hashtag that went viral in 2015 following the United States Congress\u2019 attempt at defunding Planned Parenthood; and <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/858117564\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Portrait of a scandal: The abortion trial of Robert Notman<\/a>, about the younger brother of Montreal\u2019s noted photographer William Notman who arranged for a woman\u2019s abortion.\u00a0In consideration of how abortion has been utilized by both proponents for and critics of eugenics, we have also included works on the history of eugenics in Canada such as: <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/944178927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Our Own Master Race Eugenics in Canada, 1885-1945<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/1241245852\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">In the public good : eugenics and law in Ontario<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond abortion, another theme explored in the display is the timely and hotly debated topic of surrogacy. <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/1066693950\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Surrogacy in Canada: Critical perspectives in law and policy<\/a> addresses the health and well-being of surrogates, as well as the lack of surrogacy regulation in Qu\u00e9bec. In <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/1408682249\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">My body, their baby : A progressive Christian vision for surrogacy<\/a>, author Grace Y. Kao draws on her experience as a surrogate mother and assess the ethics of surrogacy through feminist and Christian lenses. <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/1366103679\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Intimate strangers: Commercial surrogacy in Russia and Ukraine and the making of truth<\/a> examines the transactional and financial nature behind some surrogate births and the impact it has on women\u2019s bodies.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since the overturning of Roe v.
