{"id":983,"date":"2013-08-05T11:19:12","date_gmt":"2013-08-05T15:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/islamicstudieslibrary\/?p=983"},"modified":"2013-10-23T12:38:48","modified_gmt":"2013-10-23T16:38:48","slug":"kalilah-wa-dimnah-digitized","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/islamicstudieslibrary\/kalilah-wa-dimnah-digitized\/","title":{"rendered":"Kalilah wa-Dimnah digitized!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The McGill Rare Books and Special Collections&#8217; 17th cent. manuscript of <a href=\"http:\/\/digitool.library.mcgill.ca\/webclient\/DeliveryManager?&amp;pid=117953\">Kalilah wa-Dimnah<\/a> is now available online.<\/p>\n<p>Originally authored in Sanskrit, <strong>Kalilah wa-Dimnah<\/strong> is a collection of animal fables in verse and prose, taken from the Indian oral tradition. It was translated into Arabic by Abd Allah ibn al-Muqaffa around 750 A.D.<\/p>\n<p>As the bookplate below indicates, McGill copy was presented to the Library by the Quebecer philanthropist John R. Redpath (1796-1869).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/islamicstudieslibrary\/files\/2013\/08\/Ownership.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-992\" alt=\"Ownership\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/islamicstudieslibrary\/files\/2013\/08\/Ownership.jpg\" width=\"1832\" height=\"2521\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/islamicstudieslibrary\/files\/2013\/08\/Ownership.jpg 1832w, https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/islamicstudieslibrary\/files\/2013\/08\/Ownership-218x300.jpg 218w, https:\/\/blogs.library.mcgill.ca\/islamicstudieslibrary\/files\/2013\/08\/Ownership-744x1024.jpg 744w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1832px) 100vw, 1832px\" \/><\/a>This Arabic version of the text is written in an Egyptian or Syrian Hand.
