These short interviews seek to emulate the spontaneous interactions that our patrons enjoyed in the Music Library discussing their current reads or the recordings that they had recently discovered (or rediscovered!). During the pandemic I got intrigued by plague literature, and this led me to reread <strong>Margaret Atwood<\/strong>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.overdrive.com\/media\/880FF0BF-2575-49A0-A42A-973D8A68374E\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.overdrive.com\/media\/880FF0BF-2575-49A0-A42A-973D8A68374E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cMaddaddam\u201d trilogy<\/a>\u2014a brilliant dystopia about a man-made plague. I also just finished something I read back in my teen years (when it was written), <strong>John Christopher<\/strong>\u2019s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/search?databaseList=638%2C283&amp;queryString=se%3AChristopher%2C+John+AND+kw%3Atripod*&amp;clusterResults=true\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/search?databaseList=638%2C283&amp;queryString=se%3AChristopher%2C+John+AND+kw%3Atripod*&amp;clusterResults=true\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cTripods\u201d trilogy<\/a>, a classic alien invasion adventure\/Bildungsroman. And I had forgotten how whimsical and enjoyable the young adult author <strong>Nancy Farmer<\/strong> is: e.g.,&nbsp;<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/28887914\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/28887914\" target=\"_blank\">The Ear, the Eye and the Arm<\/a>,<\/em>&nbsp;a mutant-detective story set in 22<sup>nd<\/sup>-century Zimbabwe. New discoveries: <strong>Patrick Gale<\/strong>,&nbsp;<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.overdrive.com\/media\/2618871\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.overdrive.com\/media\/2618871\" target=\"_blank\">A Place Called Winter<\/a><\/em>\u2014sort of like Brokeback Mountain in the Canadian prairies. I just bought the acclaimed novel&nbsp;<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.overdrive.com\/media\/5390788\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.overdrive.com\/media\/5390788\" target=\"_blank\">The Prophets<\/a>&nbsp;<\/em>(<strong>Robert Jones, Jr<\/strong>), about forbidden love between two enslaved young men on a Southern plantation, looking forward to reading it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for non-fiction, I\u2019m reading&nbsp;<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/711051785\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/711051785\" target=\"_blank\">The Swerve<\/a>&nbsp;<\/em>by <strong>Stephen Greenblatt<\/strong>, about scholars hunting for ancient books in the Italian Renaissance;&nbsp;<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/1022084782\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/1022084782\" target=\"_blank\">White Fragility<\/a>&nbsp;<\/em>by <strong>Robin DiAngelo<\/strong>; and <strong>Kate Manne<\/strong>,&nbsp;<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/988166580\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/988166580\" target=\"_blank\">Down Girl<\/a><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/988166580\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/988166580\" target=\"_blank\">&nbsp;<\/a><\/strong><\/em>(a philosophical analysis of misogyny). I just acquired two high-theory treatises at the intersection of disability and queer studies: <strong>Jasbir Puar<\/strong>,&nbsp;<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/982502832\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/982502832\" target=\"_blank\">The Right To Maim<\/a>,&nbsp;<\/em>and <strong>Mel Y. Chen<\/strong>,&nbsp;<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/801926473\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mcgill.on.worldcat.org\/oclc\/801926473\" target=\"_blank\">Animacies<\/a>\u2014<\/em>which look rather daunting!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: <\/strong>Have you been able to attend any virtual concerts or conferences?
