This study design collects, evaluates and analyzes the literature \u2013 often, randomized controlled trials \u2013 to see whether the best evidence supports a given hypothesis. Because of their rigor and attention to detail, well-executed systematic reviews are heavy hitters in medical, environmental and sociological research. They challenge assumptions. They change policy.<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/05\/14\/health\/looking-for-the-final-word-on-treatment.html?smid=pl-share\">New York Times essay from March 14<\/a>* gives a glimpse of how systematic reviews are shaping medicine and medical education. McGill subscribes to the <a href=\"http:\/\/proxy.library.mcgill.ca\/login?url=http:\/\/www.thecochranelibrary.com\/\">Cochrane Collaboration Library<\/a> \u2013 so users have access to the full systematic reviews discussed in the piece \u2013 and thousands more.<\/p>\n<p>So go forth.
