It is our ninth year participating in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scienceliteracy.ca\/\">Canada-wide initiative<\/a>, spreading our enthusiasm for science with tours, workshops, drop-ins, and talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Register for a workshop<\/strong>: You can <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3739377\">crochet a mini sun keychain<\/a>, learn the art of <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3743051\">explaining science to non-specialists<\/a><strong>, <\/strong>explore <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3749834\">LaTeX with Overleaf<\/a>, take a <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3742331\">beginner<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3742333\">intermediate<\/a> Excel workshop, gain experience <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3739205\">finding and understanding Canadian datasets,<\/a> and follow an <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3742332\">introduction to research data management<\/a>. New this year is a workshop at the <a href=\"https:\/\/gic.geog.mcgill.ca\/\">Geographic Information Centre<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3751822\">working with satellite and drone images at McGill<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sftp-canada.org\/\">Science for the People Canada<\/a> is joining us for Science Literacy Week with a workshop on <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3748909\">repair as culture<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Register for a tour<\/strong>: Do you know about the temperature sensors around McGill? Take a <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3741367\">tour of climate sensors on campus<\/a> and learn about Montreal&#8217;s urban heat island effect. You can also learn about medical simulations with a <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3739402\">tour of the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning<\/a>, or explore our physics collections with a <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3740459\">tour of the Rutherford Museum and McPherson Collection with curator, Professor J. Barrette<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Drop-in<\/strong>: Stop by and explore <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3739275\">science history treasures in McGill&#8217;s Rare Books &amp; Special Collections<\/a> on the Thursday of Science Literacy Week, or take advantage of the daily drop-in times for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/library\/branches\/osler\">Osler Library of the History of Medicine<\/a> (11am-1pm). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Take in an exhibit<\/strong>: There will be an exhibit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/library\/channels\/event\/exhibit-rise-influence-medicine-islamic-world-350085\">The Rise &amp; Influence of Medicine in the Islamic World<\/a>, comprising two complementary displays, one at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/library\/branches\/islamic\">Islamic Studies Library<\/a> and other at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/library\/branches\/osler\">Osler Library.<\/a> The exhibition will be accessible during each respective library\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/library\/services\/hours\">opening hours<\/a> until December 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Joe Schwarcz is also returning this year with a <strong>lecture<\/strong> on <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3741359\">Sense, Nonsense, and Science<\/a>, and Dr. Christie Rowe is going to tell us <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryrooms.mcgill.ca\/event\/3749771\">what every Montrealer should know about earthquakes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/libraryguides.mcgill.ca\/science-literacy\">Science Literacy Week Library guide<\/a> to see our full calendar of events!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Science Literacy Week theme this year is energy, and we have a high-powered lineup of events.
