McGill Library: Web Services and Privacy
The McGill Library respects the privacy of people using our web sites and services.
The McGill Library Blogs site uses Google Analytics to gather web usage statistics that allow us to understand how people are using our web site. Using this service means that some information is gathered by Google whenever you visit our site.
We have configured Google Analytics so that none of this data is shared with other Google services or with third-parties.
You can opt-out of having your information sent to Google Analytics by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
The McGill Library Blogs service uses the Akismet service to filter out spam comments posted to our blogs.
When a comment is submitted to one of our blogs, all comment information, including the comment text as well as the name, email address, and IP address of the comment author is sent to the Akismet service. Also sent is some technical information to identify the kind of browser and computer device used to post the comment.
If you are not comfortable with your data being submitted to the Akismet service, simply refrain from posting comments to any of the McGill Library Blogs sites. Feedback can always be sent via email to any addresses provided by the blog author. You can also send feedback to us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and if you include the name of the blog, we’ll make sure it gets to the right person.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your privacy as it related to the Library’s web services, please contact the Web Services Librarian.
