On trial: Middle Eastern Manuscripts Online, Pioneer Orientalists
The database “Middle Eastern Manuscripts Online, Pioneer Orientalists” is on trial for us until November 11, 2011! It may interest some of you as it entails digitized Arabic manuscripts from the Leiden University Library:
– The collection of Joseph Justus Scaliger (d. 1609)
– The collection of Franciscus Raphelengius (d. 1597)
– The collection of Jacobus Golius (d. 1667) which is particularly famous for its manuscripts on Islamic science.

Lebanese Islamic Cultural Center Conference, 2011
The Lebanese Cultural Center of Montreal will be hosting a three day conference commencing tomorrow evening. The conference will discuss various aspects of Islamic Studies and promises to be an excellent three day event.

Description: | Abu Hamid al- Ghazali was born in Tus in modern day Iran. al-Ghazali is one of the most significant and prominent (Islamic) thinkers and authors. He was a prolific writer particularly on four main subjects: philosophy, theology, law, and Sufism. His influence resonates even to this day and amongst some of the great Western philosophers of yesterday. The exhibition celebrates the life of al-Ghazali on this, the 900th year since his passing in 1111 A.D. and highlights some of the unique holdings of the Islamic Studies Library as well as McGill’s Rare Books and Special Collections. | |
