The Aga Khan Museum, which is under construction in Toronto, Canada, includes an important manuscript collection (over 70 manuscripts) and several hundred folios with miniature paintings.
The manuscripts (Qur’an, religious commentary, books of science, philosophy , and literature (including some famous Shahnameh) have been scanned (digitized) and are now avalaible on this website.

Sciences sociales et autoritarisme : le cas des Territoires Occupés Palestiniens par Vincent Romani (Sc. Politique – UQAM)
Résumé
Les sciences sociales dans un espace sans État, sous occupation militaire et en crise politique permanente, constituent un bon indicateur des dynamiques sociales et politiques qui s’y déroulent. Dans un premier temps, j’essaierai de montrer comment et pourquoi des sciences sociales autochtones et autonomes peuvent exister dans les Territoires occupés palestiniens ; dans un second temps, je montrerai en quoi les sciences sociales palestiniennes se rapprochent et se différencient de l’histoire disciplinaire dans d’autres espaces régionaux et mondiaux. L’ensemble de mon propos avance une réflexion sur l’articulation entre savoirs, pouvoirs et société, opportune d’un point de vue comparatif.
Biographie
Politologue et arabisant, j’ai suivi un cursus de science politique jusqu’à la thèse de doctorat à l’Institut de Recherches et d’Études sur le Monde Arabe et Musulman (CNRS) et l’Institut d’Études Politiques (Université Paul Cézanne), à Aix-en-Provence (France). Dans ce cadre et depuis 2000, j’ai vécu huit années en Syrie, Territoires occupés palestiniens et Égypte, et je retourne régulièrement sur ces terrains.
L’enquête de terrain et l’immersion constituent donc mon approche privilégiée et qualitative ; je mobilise pour mes recherches et mes enseignements les disciplines des sciences sociales qui analysent les phénomènes et luttes politiques, sans égards aux vaines frontières disciplinaires.
Mes objets de recherche suivent deux axes, le premier s’intéresse aux sciences sociales dans le Monde arabe, à partir de l’étude des champs universitaires, et de leurs rapports avec les champs du pouvoir, dans des espaces autoritaires. Le second axe s’intéresse à la matérialisation de l’autoritarisme, c’est-à-dire à la violence sous toutes ces formes et sa production, gestion et circulation entre public et privé, politique et civil, local et global.

The Womens Studies Program at Wheaton College is pleased to announce a one- year postdoctoral fellowship supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
The fellow will pursue research and teach three courses in the Womens Studies Program during the appointment, including Transnational Feminisms, Introduction to Womens Studies or Feminist Theory, and a course in his or her area of specialty. Womens Studies is particularly interested in scholars of Islamic Feminism working on critical sexualities, but welcomes applications from all scholars in this field.
The salary is $45,000 with full benefits and a research allocation of $1,500 during the 2012 2013 academic year.
Wheaton is a private coeducational liberal arts college of 1550 students located within easy commuting distance of Boston and Providence. Womens Studies has a rich history at Wheaton College which is a stimulating environment in which to pursue feminist research. The broad interdisciplinary nature of Womens Studies will allow the selected fellow to become fully integrated into the life of the college. The fellow also will participate in seminars and other activities organized by Womens Studies. The fellow will be mentored by a senior scholar in the Womens Studies Program, and our faculty have significant mentoring experience with new teachers in postdoctoral and junior faculty appointments. We seek candidates who are committed to strengthening their teaching in a liberal arts setting.

In recent days, fighting in and around Timbuktu has led to serious concerns about the safety of the tens of thousands of ancient manuscripts there. What is in danger is the written legacy attesting to an unprecedented intellectual and cultural expansion over the past centuries. This intellectual capital is a reflection of the continued contribution of Africans to world civilization. It is also a reflection of the pioneering place of Africa in the very foundations of writing and the spiritual and cultural development of mankind. If this heritage were to disappear, the development of African historiography would be seriously compromised and an important part of the world memory would be annihilated.
Given this situation, we address a solemn appeal to the belligerents to respect and protect the cultural heritage property held in Timbuktu, including elements of the World Heritage List of UNESCO and ancient manuscript collections in libraries, in accordance with the International Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the event of conflict.

Appel pour la sauvegarde des livres manuscrits anciens de Tombouctou et du Mali
Depuis quelques jours, les affrontements dans et autour de Tombouctou font redouter le pire pour les dizaines de milliers de livres manuscrits anciens conservés dans cette cité millénaire. Ce qui est en danger, c’est le témoignage par l’écrit d’un foisonnement intellectuel et culturel sans précédent au cours des siècles passés. Ce patrimoine intellectuel est le reflet de la contribution ininterrompue des Africains à la civilisation universelle. Il constitue également, à l’échelle de l’Histoire, la place pionnière de l’Afrique dans les fondements mêmes de l’écriture et du développement spirituel et culturel de l’humanité. S’il disparaissait, l’évolution de l’historiographie africaine se trouverait gravement compromise et un pan important de la mémoire collective mondiale serait annihilé.
Devant cette situation, nous lançons un appel solennel aux belligérants pour le respect et la sécurité des biens culturels conservés à Tombouctou, dont des éléments de la Liste du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO et les bibliothèques de livres manuscrits anciens, conformément à la Convention internationale sur la sauvegarde des biens culturels en cas de conflit.

En juillet 2009, la voie soufie ‘alâwîyya, organisait à Mostaganem, en Algérie, une rencontre internationale d’une semaine, qui réunit plus de 6000 personnes, venues d’Afrique, d’Europe, d’Amérique et d’Asie. Même si « la Tarîqa ‘Alâwiyya, fondée à Mostaganem (Algérie) en 1909 par le cheikh Ahmad al-‘Alâwî, trouve de maître en maître, son enracinement dans le modèle Muhammadien », l’objet de cette célébration ne consistait pas à commémorer le passé ou «l’enracinement de cette voie, mais plutôt à tracer des sillons de lumière, à anticiper des solutions où la spiritualité puisse investir la matière. »
Boualem Gueritli le réalisateur de ce documentaire, était présent sur place, pendant toute la durée de l’évènement. Il nous livre le message que cette manifestation a adressé à tous les humains, un message d’espérance et de fraternité authentique. Etait-ce une utopie ? L’avenir nous le dira.
